markyb wrote:being honest eric,if you knew the Bass were full of roe and killed them you are an idiot, thats just like what the eastern europeans were and still are doing in the canals and rivers and all sea fish etc even though coarse fish are protected and stocked up for coarse anglers its just f****ng common courtesty and respect,so you dont see nothing wrong with killing a pregnant female tope?they could have easily left the last bit out were the tope is being dragged up the beach and then stabbed in the head.in my eyes there criminals and should get the chair   thats just my two cent.

hold on. i killed those bass, gutted them and then discovered the roe, i didnt intentially set out to kill bass full of roe. in hind sight would i have done anything different? well no, i still woud have killed them its my right. there is no law stating otherwise. the bass have their closed season to spawn and any bass that didint make are simpy casualties of nature, life goes on. humans sometimes seem to forget we are animals as well, we are activily involved in the food chain, would anyody give out to a polar bear for killing a mother seal and leaving the seal pups to die? i think not. i dont go out and kill everyfish i catch, i take what i need for my family and occasionaly neighbours to eat, nothing goes to waste.
honesty mark i personaly wouldnt kill a tope never mind a pregnant one, like i said i have to much respect for them. but for me to call them 'distgusting' or 'sick' is not right either, its theres to kill and i respect them for having there way of doing things. you cannot bring the eastern european anglers killing protected coarse fish into this argument, this has nothing to do with breaking laws, killing a tope in new zealand is not illeagle, nor is it illeagle here.
why should they leave the last bit out? they didnt force you to watch it, if its not your cup of tea turn it off and look away. i like to know where my food comes from and im happy to see their kids arn't nannyised into thinking their food is caught in cellophane and plastic packaging from the supermarket reef ten miles out to sea. im sure you've eaten cheep proccesed meat in your life, we all know the suffering battery chickens and intesive farmed pigs and cattle are subjected to. maybe i should call you an idiot for buying such things, but then again this is life and above all sh!t happens so get over it.
angling is not just about catch and release and comps, first off its a sport that was created as a means to obtaining food. while the majority of us irish have forgoten this and i may add taken positive steps in conserving our fish stocks the rest of the world still considers this sport as hunting. what makes us so high and mighty to say otherwise.

who said the tope was pregnant anyway, you can judge if a fish is pregnant by looking at it.

doggie the first fish, ie smaller one is a smoothound

I really can see both sides of this debate. I kill and eat fish and catch and release fish. I wonder how many people who call this disgusting sick etc peel live crabs for bait? I do and see that as part of the sport but have been questioned by horrified onlookers as to how I could do that! I could see their point! I have spoken with anglers who are all for catch and release yet fill their freezers with mackerel for bait.If you fish you do damage fish its part of the sport. Coming from a freshwater background the move towards barbless hooks on flies is seen as the only way to give the fish a really good chance of survival having been caught they would see us sea anglers as using heavy weighted baits which doesn't give the fish a great chance. Its all about where you are coming from. I bet they enjoyed that fish and it was a once in a lifetime catch and event for those kids too who will continue to fish and understand where food comes from. Many will tuck into a chicken in some form or other tonight that has had the most awful existence yet mightn't receive the same thought as this. I have often seen these catch and release debates and vowed to stay out but couldn't now. Id obviously prefer to see the bigger fish going back but wouldn't throw stones there is always another logic further down the line. The bottom one being there should be no fishing its cruel and awful to enjoy putting fish through what we do anyway tight lines everyone! pat

have to totally agree with eric and mac.
its the same aul argument. there must be one a week now.
the percentage of anglers that catch tope and kill them is a tiny fraction compared to the commercial end of things and not only tope but a number of different species, cod mainly.
just look at that programme trawler men and you will see what anglers are up against you cant possibly compare that to any amount of anglers and that programme only shows you probably six to eight boats out of ONE port.
tope is highly sought after in france and spain. ive been in a lot of different fish mongers in mainly spain and have to say it will amaze you tope, smoothound and spurs cut up into steaks...tasty id imagine!!

peace out

bru

Wow that was a nice tope! Would do anything for one of those off the shore!! As for killing them....well i nearly always return all my fish, would never dream of killing a tope or smoothie, nevermind one that looks full of pups!

what savagery he stuck a knife in the fishes head and remember thats all it was a fish not a baby . looking at the vid the shark died straight away . c&r brigade make me sick some times if he killed it and left it on the beach id go mad but they didnt .also you have the same lads giving out about killing fish but you see them chucking doggies in the water as if the doggies were sticks (i know this is a generalisation). fishing is a blood sport simple . Man eats fish so man has to kill fish end of discussion .

get over it. such hypocracy. how do you know she looked heavily pregnant? a fish can also appear fat if its has eaten recently. why does a tope deserve more respect than a mackerel or a ragworm. chances are you have no problem killing plenty of these. if you had so much so called respect for this fish you wouldnt fish for them regardless of c&r or not. to put it under stress is detrimental to it so why do you it?

i never said she wasnt pregnant if she was and we have no way to know she was i would be against it. but it doesnt take away from the fact that if a man wants to kill a fish to eat i dont see a problem same way i dont see a problem with someone shooting a deer for the table or raising livestock to eat

Your starting to understand very good.. my point is that one animal was killed in the video and your saying you would do time and cursing why don't you look at the bigger picture and cop on  there are hundreds of sharks killed every day put your words to use somewhere else where people will listen to you if you feel so strongly about this problem there is a web address on the end of the movie i posted
