How long is a piece of string
it depends on what style you use, your stature,what you intend to use the rod for, Remember it's you that actually gets the distance not the rod, that just helps a bit
a good style and a rod that suits you and your style is much better than getting an ultra stiff casting rod just because Andrew Gormley or big Danny cast 300 yards with a 14 foot plus telegraph pole

0r a steel support girder, some of them rods are pure pigs
ya definitely need to be a beast to cast them
Like Sod said mate, all depends on a number of converging dynamics.
The general rule is;
low reel-13-14 foot
high reel 12-13 foot
Rod choice would depend on what your distance casting is for, fishing or purely casting, technique used and or aimed for and current casting ability.
