antrim beach sat 13th nov

#1 Post by Al and Jordan »

People: me, jordan, liam78 and dan belfast

Duration: 3pm to 7pm

Tide: HW 4pm

Weather: bitterly cold but dry and not a breath of wind

Bait: rag, mack, razor and sand eel

Rigs: 3 hook flappers

Results: ME: 5 coalies, 4 whiting and 6 flounder. JORDAN: 2 whiting and 1 coalfish. LIAM78: coalies, whiting and flounder 21 in total. DAN BELFAST: whiting, flounder and coalies. about 15 in total

Report: we decided to give one of our winter beaches a go and quickly rounded up some of the lads for a night out. we got set up and were fishing for 3pm but the bites did'nt begin until we began to lose the light after 4.30pm. so it looks like it's time to wait until dusk to head out again. everyone except dan was fishing 2 rods and they were all nodding away with the micro whiting attacking all and sundry that was put in front of them  it was a bit embarrising pulling in whiting that were smaller than the worms they were trying to eat    but i suppose it beats blanking. liam78 was on fire pulling in doubles and trebles all night while jordan decided he'd rather walk up and down the beach chittering away in liam and dan's ears all night (sorry lads). there was nothing of any size caught and we did'nt even break the 30cm barrier but we had a bit of banter and no one blanked. so it could have been worse. but by 7pm we decided to call it a day as i wanted to get back to watch the fight on box office, and to be honest it ended up being as mediacore as the fishing   but a few cans of guinness made it all better :P :P . not the greatest of sessions, but what we lacked in quality we made up for in quantity i suppose :D

I was sitting in the bar before the fight, the lads were going to the bookies... and I kept saying, Haye in the 3rd Round to them! Wouldn't listen to me! So needless to say they lost their bet!

Good fishing there lads, always good to get a wee Saturday night out...

7 pm ???? I was expecting 7 am at least or maybe 7 pm the following day - but at least you have fair few fish for the time fishing.

I have more or less given up on beach fishing in daylight - maybe get set up in daylight but I dont expect much until dusk. Although I guess there are certain beaches that will produce fish in daylight (particularly those near estuaries) but in general dusk seems to bring them in.

cheers brian. i was reading about all your recent disasters man :o . boy your getting it tough man. very dark flounder alright, but not that big..... just perspective with the camera    that's why i photograph all the decent fish on the measure. a fish held at arms length towards the camera looks twice as big as it really is    . seems to be the favourite pose for a lot of the angling mags with wildly exaggerated weights

cheers conger. even when we dropped down to size 4 hooks the wee whiting still managed to rob all the bait off the hooks :( :( . i think next time i'll just let them stay on the hooks and do a bit of live baiting for something bigger  :P

cheers gerry. just glad to be still catching :P
