People:19th myself and martin from England,20th myself

Duration:19th 18:30 to 01:00,20th 19:00 to 00:00

Tide:19th high 22:09 4.5m 20th 23:18 4.3m

Weather:19th misty 20th dry

Bait:mackerel,sand eel,feathers

Rigs:various

Results:19th martin ray,dogfish myself dogfish,coalfish,pollack over 40 fish between us
20th 4 dogfish,13 coalfish,5 pollack



Report:met up with martin on the 19th and went to a local pier
martin was bait fishing with 1 rod and I had a rod set up with bait and another with feathers we were in to fish in a short time,pollack coalfish to the feathers and dogs on the bait we were kept busy all night
at about 22:30 martin go a bite that nearly pulled the rod off the pier and after a good fight martin landed his first ever ray,a ray he wont forget in a long time as you can see from his finger in the photo

it even managed to give me a bit of a squeeze on the thumb while trying to unhook it,I never saw a ray bite as strong as that before
we also spotted strange worm like things about 1 to 2 inch long and swimming around very fast,anyone know what they are?

on the 20th i went to the same pier again but the fishing was a bit quieter then other nights,only :roll: 22 fish :lol:

nice fishing, the worms are small ragworms . they spawn inshore at this time of year, if hang a light over the water at night you can catch them easily with a small mesh drop net . they are excellent flattie baits , beware of their bites :( :( :( .

Thanks Gerry, did not think you would show the pic with my blood all over the place....Lol. Yes it was a good week`s fishing, I certainly did not want to come home. I was chuffed with my first ever Ray even though the devil got hold of my finger with a vice like bite. Already planning when we are coming back.
