ROCK FISHING CO. SLIGO

#1 Post by FisherKing »

People: Myself

Duration: Wed 1 hr Thurs 4 hrs

Tide: Filling

Weather: Heavy showers

Bait: Lug, Condor

Rigs: Single Hook with Weight

Results: 8 Pollack, 7 Ballan Wrasse, 1 Corkwing, 1 Mackerel & 1 Coalfish

Report: 29/07/09 & 30/07/09

Decided to head to Streedagh to try the beach for a few Flounder but the place was packed so headed to a rock mark a bit down the road which I haven’t fished in a while so set up a simple rig of 1 hook and a small weight about 1ft above it. Loaded with Lug dropped it down the side of the rock, bang fish on, reeled up a small Ballan Wrasse so baited up again, same thing, another, this time a small Corkwing Wrasse, & this continued for the next hour until the heavy shower of rain hunted me away :x .

The next day I returned & got 2 nice little Ballan slightly bigger than the day before. A pod of Dolphins put on a great show chasing Mackerel around the bay for about 10 minutes then moved on :o . Soon after I noticed a shoal of Sandeels swim by so stuck on a Condor, a quick cast across them and connected with a nice wee Pollack around a 1½ lb, then it went quiet until 2 hours before dark, then every 2nd or 3rd cast was a nice Pollack from 2 - 2 ½ lb. It was nonstop, the Pollack were jumping clear from the water after Sandeels, but I only managed to catch 1 Mackerel, (I guess the Dolphins got the rest!). It then started to get dark so took one last cast for the road and reeled in a small Coalfish by the tail that was the size of the bait so packed up and headed as I’d no light with me & it was a bit of a trek up the rocks. :D
