Small mackeral

#1 Post by alancooper »

Fishing from rocks near Bundoran, Donegal bay today, I caught the smallest mackeral. It was finger-sized. The guy next to me caught two!
is there a biologist who can tell me where the mackeral breed? The one I caught must have been an egg fertilised this Summer.

Mackerel spawning peaks off the west coast during May and June. This link has a map of the main spawning areas from a survey carried out by the Marine Institute.
