Tried floating beads ??? I haven't myself. mightn't but them out, but it might reduce them a bit.

I usually just put a tip of bait on the hook and put up with them. I usually find they disappear when the bass arrive. When the doggies stop biting, its time to get off your backside and prepare for the frontal assault.

in my experience they love squid, caught plenty on it. also the floaty beads won't put them off, i've caught them floatfishing before!! they just scavenge on anything. i have to say i don't mind catching plenty of them.

true.. caught plenty of dogs on squid.. could be worse.. you could be plagued with 5 inch whiting and coalfish all the time..

Had this problem with doggies at the start of the year.Changed over to worm baits and found that they don't have as much taste for lug etc. (although i'm sure they would take it if really pushed) as they do for fish baits.

they love minisquid in some places. straight lug tends to get hit less but not everywhere! have had days were floaties helped to catch dogs. rather them than pin whiting anyday

Ah, good old LSDs, much loved by match men everywhere, problem is I've never got amongst them in a match and tend instead to be plagued by them on pleasure sessions from time to time.

I was fishing Tope in Lough Swilly last year on Rapala with full mackerel fillets and flappers on 7/0 forged hooks, after several doubles of doggies on a single hook  I wound in another double shot with one on the hook and the other (insert description as you see fit... Suicidal, Mad, Stupid....whatever) doggie had his mouth firmly fastened around the wire trace I was using, about a foot up from the hook. :? It was nearly as hard to unclamp him from it as it was to unhook the other one, he wasn't for getting left behind.

have to agree with Teacher.... I've always found that when doggies suddenly stop biting in summer you can be nearly 100% certain that a pack of hounds or tope will hit fairly soon.

Nice tip.

On one of my regular beaches, changing your casting distance helps. But then it's often a choice of catching doggies or catching nothing :(

If you can't avoid them, the Gemini Disgorger is a handy tool for removing them quickly. Also, I've found pennel rigs can prevent some gut hooks. (But if they do swallow the pennel it's a mess).

the best way to stop catching doggies is to not go fishing, but thats too hard, you can use circle hooks, if not i use long nose forceps or the Gemini disgorger, the best bet is to use lighter a lighter rod and enjoy the fun, after all it bets blanking
