Co. Sligo Rock Mark, October 9th & 16th 2012

#1 Post by FisherKing »

People: Myself & John

Duration: Three hour sessions

Tide: Filling

Weather: October 9th calm & sunny. The 16th heavy showers

Bait: Spinner & Limpet

Rigs: One hook Wrasse Rig

Results: October 9th: Six Pollock. October 16th: 11 Ballan one Corkwing.

Report:
It’s been a while since I put up a report due to the crap weather & very bad fishing at times over the last couple of months but this month has improved a lot so I’ll start with the most recent sessions.

October 9th

It was the first day that the weather & tides suited a spot of spinning so I wasted no time & made my way to a rock mark where I usually pick up some Garfish this time of year but on arrival there was a heavy swell running  meaning I couldn’t fish the place I wanted, then I meet the brother who was heading out to another mark nearby so we made our way over there.
This mark was looking good & the sun had started to shine it was almost like a summer’s day... We took up our positions on the rock & began to cast at different ranges & depths. Sure enough ten minutes later John was straight in with a nice Pollock of 3 lb landed & this was followed by another two fish of 2.5 lb, I just couldn’t get a bite with him shouting over to what’s the score now 3 nill  Then luckily I hooked a small Pollock of 1.5 lb followed by another one shortly after slightly bigger so the score was looking better then bang a big Pollock grabbed the spinner diving straight for the kelp beds & ledges but I managed to get clear only to lose her when the hook broke as I was about to land her & with the splash of her tail was she was gone a nice Pollock of around 7 or 8 lb  I felt like giving up at this stage it has to be the worst feeling to lose a great fish at the last minute but I took a sort brake to gather my thoughts & go again so cast back in to the same place as before letting it hit the bottom & bang another big fish took off with the spinner only this one felt even bigger than before  after a savage battle up to the surface came a massive Pollock, I knew this was one I’ve been chasing a double figure Pollock & with a bit help from a well timed wave the fish was landed. It was a huge & topped the scales at 10 lb 1oz 8) happy days. It was a new personal best beating my previous by over a pound. A few pics & off she went....

October 16th:

We headed out to target some big Wrasse but again a heavy swell was running making the best spots to dangerous to fish but luckily we were able to fish the sheltered gullies where I caught six Ballan to almost 40cm along with one Corkwing & John caught five Ballan with a good few lost.

Excellent big pollack Fisherking, I suppose your brother lost interest in the scoreline after that? Any sign of those big Harvest Wrasse that you mentioned previously? I'd like to give them a go with some purpose-dug lug before it's too late.

Cheers John, the score wasn't mentioned again !!! plenty of big Wrasse about only problem is getting to them hopefully this heavy swell that's being running will die down this week & let me fish the deep holes. If you get a chance you should give them a shot yourself.
