Blue Lobster
On a recent trip to Ballyvaughan, I stopped at Linnane's in New Quay for some grub. There's a fish shop beside the pub on the pier and so I took the kids to it to look at the lobsters while the food was being prepared. In the tank was a bright blue lobster. I've never seen anything like it. Photo is attached, but it doesn't even do it justice. It was bright blue. Amazing looking thing...

Re: Blue Lobster
Quite a rare sight, only an estimated one in 2–5 million lobsters is blue. A genetic defect causes a blue lobster to produce an excessive amount of a particular protein. The protein and a red carotenoid molecule known as astaxanthin combine to form a blue complex known as crustacyanin, giving the lobster its blue color.
You should buy it and sell it to an aquarium as it surely would be an attraction

Re: Blue Lobster
Don't think it's for sale. It's in its own cage and there's a sign on the wall (done by a kid) calling it 'The famous Blue Lobster'.The Austrian wrote: You should buy it and sell it to an aquarium as it surely would be an attraction

Re: Blue Lobster
Seems to be a good few unusual ones out there, recent irish times article on it
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ire ... A.facebook
Think most of the Irish aquariums have a few different coloured ones
