The Fixed Spool Reel Challenge

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

The Fixed Spool Reel Challenge

#1 Post by Rampent Wreckfish »

Can anyone recommend a fixedspool reel that I cant destroy in under a year :D

Only criteria is that it must have a long cast spool and hold at least 300 yards of .35mm line
UP THE DEISE!!!!!!!

If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

Take a look at these:

Penn Torque™

Model Mono cap/lb. Braid cap/lb gear ratio
TRQS5-B 300/15 400/30 5.9:1

TRQS7-B 340/20 390/65 5.1:1

TRQS9-B 440/25 490/80 5.1:1

I have not used one, but they seem to be quite solid and are getting great reports.

Danny.

They actually look the job but with no casting spool they are not really gonna be suitable.

I dont think any of the Daiwas are up to the job

Sur we can strap it to the top of the plane :D I am sure Micheal O Leary wouldn`t mind.

Andrew you wouldn`t be the first to reccommend that reel i hear it is Bullet Proof. and you can get 10,000 yards of line on it :D

I think everyone that has ever fished a SAI comp has/had one of these

THey last a couple of months if you are lucky. I agree with you they ARE pure shite.

The worst reel ever must be the Penn surfmaster. It a joke. But its amazing how the angling mags keep pushing and promoting it.

I just picked up the older Surfmaster 70 on eBay, on all accounts meant to be a bit better than the current models, not sure if it would do your job though?

Always heard great reports on Shimanos but they can well up the price range. My theory is not to spend too much so I don't feel too bad when it ends up in the bin.

The old surfmaster 70 is a better reel by far I stil have one somewhere myself.

The shimano ultegra`s 10000/14000 are by far and away the best I have had and have lasted me over a year but it is probably because I have four of them and am alternating between them.

Has anyone used the Shimano power Areo xsa 10000

Is that for the longest cast or holding the most amount of line :D
