waterfoot, bangor and donaghadee. 2 days 3 marks 21st & 22nd

#1 Post by Al and Jordan »

People: me and jordan

Duration: see below

Tide: low to high

Weather: insanely windy and wet

Bait: rag, mack, lug and squid

Rigs: 2 and 3 hook flappers

Results: whiting, codling, flounder and shore rockling

Report: after my trip down the east coast during the week jordan was chomping at the bit to get out and bag himself a few fish   . so a few of our usual marks were due a good rattle   . we decided to get a bit of beach fishing in and a trip to waterfoot was in order. we arrived around 8pm on saturday night only to discover it was blowing a gale    . but we were there and had the bait thawed out so decided to give it a go even if only for a few hours. bite indication was out the window as the wind was blowing the rod tips about something shocking. so we just reeled in every 20 minutes to see if we had a fish on. jordan got 2 flounder and i ended up with 4 (micro) whiting, 1 codling and 1 flounder. by midnight the gales had picked up something shocking and we knocked it on the head before we got blown up the beach

sunday morning. mark 2 donaghadee harbour 1pm to 4pm
we decided to take a run along the co. down coast to see where was fishable and soon decided to give the harbour a go. jordan was first into a fish landing a wee codling. he then followed it with another 2 before my old blank saving buddys the rockling came out to play :D :D . then it was my turn for a codling and jordan got a coalie. jordan rounded off the session with a whiting and a ruddy big eel snaffled my lug and mack bait and tore off across the harbour mourh for the breakwater on the other side    i tightened the drag as much as i dared before he bent the hook out straight and escaped :( :( :( i was gutted. i had no chance of landing him on a spinning rod & reel and size 4 hooks but it really got the blood pumping when he started to strip the reel of line. the wind had picked up yet again and jordan was getting blown about the place like a rag doll     so we decided to go for a whiting competition at bangor to use up the last of the bait

mark 3 bangor harbour 5pm to 7pm
we got set up on the platform and dropped down to 2 hooks each and the comp started   jordan tore off into the lead getting doubles where as i was picking up singles until a wee rush at the end left it 14 whiting to jordan and 19 to me    (finally won for once). we still had some bait left over but the wind was getting scary strong so we opted to call it a day.
a great weekends fishing considering the conditions we were faced with and enough bait left over to justify a trip to portrush tonight with arron from the site to try and get him a few new species

   i told him not to be jumping into the air as i did'nt fancy having to fish him out if got blown over the railings    and being a typical 10 year old the first thing he did when my back was turned was to jump into the air     on a sadder note you might be waiting a while on the measure neil     while we were away our dog cody decided that the 2 measures and bag of long boat booms were better than her pedigree jumbone as chew toys      . so as soon as i get them replaced i'll get it posted down
