Donaghadee pier, Co Down, 04/10/09

#1 Post by vamper »

People:Me

Duration:1000 - 1300

Tide:HW @ 1210

Weather:Sunny, slight breeze, altogether quite pleasant for a change!

Bait:Mack, prawns

Rigs:3 hook flappers, 3 boom bling, float

Results: 1 Whiting, 1 Flounder (both new species 8) 8) )

Report:

After a over a month of not being able to wet a line due to cold and flu going round all 4 kids (and my heavily pregnant wife having a bad back), I finally managed to get a run out to the Dee. I wasn't sure what to expect as I usually fish this mark at night, but was hopeful after the high winds the night before.
I set up one rod with a 3 hook flapper, and the other rod with a wee homemade rig festooned with booms, sequins and beads (I'm tempted to call it the "Strictly Come Dancing" rig  ).
After being tortured by crabs   for about an hour, I had a knock on the flapper rod which seemed to be a bit more than a crab, and in came a nice wee Whiting (wee being the key word  ). But, a new species is a new species regardless of size, so I was happy enough!
It stayed quiet for the rest of the morning, so I decided to have the famous "one last cast" before heading home. Within 5 minutes, I had a hit on the bling rig, and was well pleased to land a nice wee 20cm flounder - another new species :D
I set myself a target of 10 species at the start of the year, and the flounder was the one that did it!
The race is on now to get in as many sessions in the next few weeeks as I can, before baby no.5 arrives, and I am grounded for a month or two!!

nice session vamper :P i went down last night hopeing fishing the flooding tide into darkness would result in bigger fish. but alas it was just the usual mix of wee codling, pouting, poor, cod, pollack and coalfish. only bonus was a wee dog at the end  . but the flounder was one for the books as i've only ever got one there myself. and i think i've only seen 5 taken from there in the last 3 years. so well done man 8)

Cheers Al. I had heard stories of Dee flounder, but that one was the first i had seen myself. Sounds like you had a good session yourself species wise :)
