Need advice on rods

Hi again Guys.

I have just been looking at the Salt range again. What is the casting distance like with the 10'2" mpv ? I have seen a Salt 'Bass' rod at 11'6" - would you say a longer rod than 10' would be better or is the 10'2" mpv perfectly adequate ?

I have used and fished a few (actually a lot) of the Fox fresh and salt-water range.
Never had any complaints and find the pricing fair in relation to quality.

Nevertheless, it's your choice and I know, that's not an easy one, can nearly open shop myself at this stage with lots of gear not getting used because I found and bought something else I fancied more.
A lot of folks here on the site would have gone through a similiar experience, I'm sure.

Anyway, here's a link, but it's up to your discretion to decide what fits your needs, best advice is treat it as just another suggestion.

the salt mpv will cast as far as you can cast it,good action,i would have no problems getting a 100 to 150yds on it with a 4oz lead,as far as i need to cast anyway.

I just want to say thank you very much for all of the advice and recommendations. I think I am going to go for a 'Salt'.

'Austrian' I looked at the 'Fox' rods which I was quite interested in. I sent them an enquiry and they couldn't be bothered to reply so sod em, Shakespeare it will be. Thanks for the info' anyway.

In my search I have found a very comparable rod with the Shakeseare Salt. It's a Daiwa and has virtually the same specifications. Would anyone like to make a comparison between the two makers ?

Daiwa do an excellent range of rods too, both makes are equally good for teh type of rod you're looking for!

Best advice is to go into a shop and pick one up, you'll get a good idea of it's weight, feel and if you will be able to get the best from it.

This i can tell you, buy the best you can afford and you'll save yourself hassle in the future by not buying cheap rods every couple of months!

Listen to advice given, read some reviews and make a decision based on your needs from the rod and how much you want to spend!

Good luck with the purchase but do get yourself into a good tackle shop who'll set you right!

have to agree with what kstaff said - get into a tackleshop and get the rod in your hand - it is amazing how a rod will instantly feel right in you hand - or too heavy, or stiff, or unbalanced - if it doesnt feel right when you holding it, you wont be happy with it IMO.

its the one downside of buying rods online.

have been looking at similar rods on e-bay etc - an it all becomes a bit of a blurr of specs and advice/opinions , last weekend I was up at my parent in the north and and called into a new tackle shop - they had half a dozen 11' or so light sea rods, all of which i had seen on line, some rods that had looked and sounded good felt like lumps of lead when i picked them up.

one stood out and seemed to suit me best ( it is now on my wishlist ) - but online there was nothing to distinguish it.

given similar specs, size casting weight etc. ideal thing is to find someone with one and give it a try - failing that at leastget you hands on it
