West Cork 6 & 7 June.

#1 Post by wilky83 »

People : Me, edith, her sister and husband and nephew.
Duaration : 6th 11.00 - 17.00, 7th 16.30 - 18.00.
Weather : 6th sun,rain,sun,rain,sun, hailstone!
7th sunny
Methods : 6th lures
7th free lined bread

Results : Me 3 pollack to 2 lb, 3 mullet (landed one)
Rupert 4 pollack to 1 lb and a coalfish.

Report:
6th :
As the girlfriends sister and husband were visiting i thought i would introduced him ( Rupert) to sea fishing he is a mad keen coarse and trut fisherman at home in austria but has never tried sea fishing.
The weekend started well the first fish went to him a small coalfish that was the most amazing colour it was bright orange ( sadly no photos of day one as the camera thought it was a fish and went for a swim ), next up he caught two ollack not big by any means both weight just under one pound, so at this atage the pressure was on as i was three fish down eventually i hooked into a nice pollack who weighted just under one pound, by this stage he had caught two more pollack but i then showed him up by reeling in the biggest of the day at just under 2 pounds :D :D .
the weather wasnt great but we fished through and it ended up being a good day.

7th :
Headed back down today to sample the trout fishing in the schull resevoir to find out that it is closed :( maybe i should have rang ahead as we planned nothing else to do apart from bashing some trout   .
Luckily we headed to mizen head to the lighthouse and a few other senic sights, the girs were delighted with this no fishing lark myself and rupert were less impressed   , we decided to stop in castletownshend on the way home for dinner in this amzing seafood returant called Mary Anns i recommened it to anyone looking for great seafood, we got there at 16.30 to realise the resturant didnt open until 18.00 :( :( , so now no fishing all day and one and a half hours t wait we took a stroll down to the pier, to our luck a big shoal of mullet were feeding on the surface and we had some bread in the car, i had never fished for mullet but we set up two rods to free line bread , then the fun began :o :o , i was fisrst into a fish which took the bait across mooring ropes ( have a look at the photos :( and you'll see what i mean about mooring ropes :( :( ) i managed to get him out and i think he weighted at least three or four pounds mabye from the photos someone could have a better guess, rupert didnt hook up as he was intent on constantly pulling the hok away from the fish and the girlfriend missed one, i hooked 3 in total landed one and the second snapped off as i was lifting him which was stupid :( :( , and the 3rd was at least double the size of the first one but he snapped me off because the clutch was too tight again stupid :( :( :( .
Great weekend though and a new species, looking forward to the return in Austria in July :D :D 8) .

I went to castletownshend on the 9th of august about an hour b4 high tide... i had a cracking sized mullet i used a treble from a spinner on some white bread and 4 or 5 casts in (6ft in to water 2 ft from edge of boat ramp). i couldnt get a picture as i hadnt used the phone before had kids running around standing on my rod, boats coming in etc

Just wanted to say thanks Wilky if i hadn't seen your report i wouldn't have taken some bread with me.
Popping down there for an hour this evening to have another go bought a bubble float just in case they are topping further out and will suss out this camera on phone b4 leaving.

Tight Lines
