Re: competition discussion and banter 09
Thanks John,
Fished Shankill, 1st time there, and thought it might have thrown the odd cod our way after the bad weather. I've heard on the grapevine that they can be caught there after a good blow.
Rockling (5.b) and whiting is all we got. All the whiting were 25-30cm, but the rockling were tiny.
A pleasant evening's fishing all the same

that was my first thought.. but i could only find 3 barbels.. so either its a five bearded that had a trim or a very pale shore rockling, i'll go with the latter... and anyone that says its a 3bearded needs to get out more

Mod Gods, Please add my Scaldfish to the final sheet, no interest in taking part throughout the year but its a nice one to add in that i have never heard of before much less seen caught.

Don’t know if this matters but just to let you’s know that Boycie was kind enough to tell me that my Pollock is in fact a coalfish and my 3 bearded Rockling is a shore rockling
Thanks for putting me right on that Boycie.. It’s been so long since I caught any fish that I cant seem to id them correctly… must be old age catching up on me,

Re: competition discussion and banter 09
I dont think I'll get much of a chance this year, I've just started a open university degree and my heads pickled trying to keep up with it plus work, you could count my shore sessions on one hand so far this year
I'll maybe post results from a few sessions if I get a chance just to keep ya's on your toes
but If I can offer any advice on minis pm me and I see if I can help, at least virtual fishing will keep me sane

If someone shows you a mark to fish, respect it and dont pass it of as one of your own, dont tell every man and his dog about it.

Re: competition discussion and banter 09
Hi all,
Can anyone tell me from the picture below if this fish is a plaice or a flounder... I did check for the lumps over its eye and found one that you may see below,
I know that the flounder has no bumps but this fella had the one for sure and felt like another couple of veery small pimple's alongside of the bump,
Thanks.

Flounder.
The curve on the lateral line seems to be very rough. Sure indication of a flounder.

Re: competition discussion and banter 09
Thank you Donal,
I was hoping to hear it was a plaice as it must be 3 years since I caught one… if indeed it was a plaice that I caught then,
And yes I did rub my finger up its line and felt tiny little pin like spikes.. Forgot to mention that earlier,
Thanks again,
