Results: Me; 6 Whiting, 1 Flounder, 1 crab. Stephen8wood; 9 Whiting
Report: I’m nervous about doing this again given my first report is still going and had a moderate step in at one point! Anyway, we pretty much blanked for the 1st hour. Tide was coming in for 1st 45 minutes. Started with 1 up 1 down and did a few short casts on the off chance there were a few bass lurking. But no joy. The sea was very calm with little or no surf. As the tide turned I changed to the 3 hook flapper and cast a reasonable distance. Almost straight away the fish started to bite. I caught the flounder along with a medium sized whiting at the same time so reeling them in was (relatively) heavy going, which was great. The flounder was a good size (I think). 31cm. Not bad for my first flounder.
You’ll be pleased to note that not only did all my whiting go back, but each got a nice bath and a bedtime story before being released. All swam happily back after that; one even turned to wave; bless.
The crab was unusual. Not very big but definately blue. I looked up 'blue crab' on the net and it wasn't a blue crab, which firstly I don't think are found here, but blue crab have blue claws and legs but dark shells, this fellas whole shell was blue. His two back legs were funny looking too; they had rounded ends rather than leg like ends that the rest of his legs had. The hook was just caught around his legs and didn't penetrate so he went happliy back too. He didn't need a story; he's made of sterner stuff. Any idea what he was?
P.S. On a completely unrelated and off topic matter, does anyone have any good flounder recipes??
