Report:It was such a good day myself and Davy mac headed over to Strangford lough hoping there would be a few big mullet moving around due to the slightly warmer weather. It was Davy`s 1st time trying for mullet so i hoped to show why im so addicted to them
When we arrived at our choosen mark it looked like it might be a waste of time as we only saw 3 fish moving.I think it might have been the amount of cold freshwater pouring in so we moved a mile along the coast to a spot where the freshwater doesn`t affect the fish.
There was a bit of a ripple on the water so it was hard to spot the fish from the shore but then we saw some nice mullet 100yards offshore so we waded out to have a crack at them. When we reached them and positioned ourselves uptide we realized there was alot more fish than we first thought,we recon there could have been as many as 200 in the area and all looked a very nice size. We couldn`t see if they were feeding but there was alot of splashing on the surface so it was just a case of casting towards the nearest fish and hope it was hungry
I didn`t wait too long for my first bite which buried my float and when i struck i could tell it was a nice fish as it had weight to it.After a good scrap i slid the net under a very nice fat mullet which took the scales to 5lb on the button
Davy mac had 1 mullet come up and attack his float but unfortunately that was the only bit of interest he had.Shortly after that i had another bite on sunken bread, this fish put up a better fight than the last and also had weight to it and after a very good fight it was in the net. This time the scales bounced to 5.25lb
I hope i get another few sessions like that before the seasons over.might have to head over after work tomorrow if the weather is decent.
