#1 Post by saltydog »

People: mga, Stevecrow & myself

Duration: afternoon and evening / night sessions

Tide: various

Weather: generally good

Bait: mackerel, squid, razor, lug, rag, sandeel, silver eel, peeler crab, various lures

Rigs: one up one down, pennel pullys, up and overs, one up clipped down, 3 hook flappers, long flowing, animal rigs, 2 hook flappers with booms, Bombers, etc etc...

Results: Bass, Common Smooth Hound, Dab, Dog, Flounder, Lesser Weever, Mackerel, Poor Cod, Silver eel, Starry Smooth Hound, Tope, Whiting

Report:

Sunday afternoon session 16:00-20:30

Mark 1: arrived at the mark to see the place alive with sprat being chased frantically by shoals of veracious mackerel with the odd bass jumping between them as the sea boiled over with activity. With this myself and steve thought we'd try our hand at lure fishing for bass whilst mga tried bottom fishing baits. We tried assortment of lures i picked up one small schoolie on a chug bug and steve got a bass on a diving lure, mackerel were plentiful and we all picked up quite a few with mga picking up a flounder also. Teacher dropped by to see how we were getting on which was nice of him :) we hope to get a session in before the end of sept with him. Results: mga 1 flounder countless mackerel / steve 1 bass lots of mack / myself 1 bass lots of mack

Mark 2: Moved a little bit further down the coast steve and myself continued our mission for bass on surface lures, we failed to connect with anymore bass but picked up some mackerel & mga stocked up plenty of fresh bait too in the form of mackerel. Results mga / steve / myself as much mackerel as you could want (starting shaking them off in the end and left as it was getting ridiculous)

Sunday evening / night 23:00-05:30

Moved back up the coast to fish one of the many coves in North Wexford, we all set up two rods one in close and one at distance. We were kept busy with fish coming steadily enough with steve picking up 7 species and myself 5 and mga 2.

Results: mga 2 dogs 1 flounder / myself 7 dogs, 2 dabs, 1 common smooth hound, 1 tope, 1 whiting / steve 1 starry smooth hound, 1 common smooth hound, 2 whiting, 1 poor cod, 1 silver eel, 1 flounder, 6 dogs,

Monday afternoon session 15:30 - 17:30

Moved further up the coast and were joined by john who brought tonnes of bait which he left with us much obliged, there was a bit of movement in the water which was coloured we weren't expecting too much but the highlight was mga's first ever smoothie a nice starry well done to martin :)

Results: mga 1 starry smooth hound, steve blank, john 3 dabs 1 lesser weaver, myself 2 whiting 1 dab.

Monday evening / night 21:30 03:30

Mark 1: Moved back down the coast for this session armed to the teeth with fresh peeler and rag and all the usual baits it looked like we were in for a bumper session with bass coming early but unfortunately the weed showed up with a vengenance and put paid to our best laid plans!! We cut our losses and headed back up the coast.

Results: mga 2 bass 1 dab, steve 1 bass, myself blank

Mark 2: the locals rate this one highly for bass we checked the clarity of the water and weed levels. All looked promising so we set up it was slow going with the weed eventually making its way up the coast after us. We called it a night having fished it hard but to little success.

Results: mga 1 dog, steve blank, myself blank

I will add more pics shortly...

Thanks jd. Very enjoyable weekend, even if exhausting (I wasn't sleeping standing-up holding that bass above, honest  ).
Always good to put faces to names of forum members

Thanks to Conor for accommodation (and the old essential fry  ) and writing-up the report, even if you were democratically volunteered in the early hours of the morning

Some fine fish there lads, even if not in great numbers for the hours put in.

Great to meet you Martin, I bet the trip was well worthwhile with your 1st ever smoothie :D :D :D

Love the video, Wexford was dancing with sprats and macks, hope they work their way up to Dublin now

Hope to fish with you guys again sometime soon, its likely I'll be heading over to Galway within the next month for a weekend session or two with Brian, be nice to sample some west coast angling

Great fishing there guys!
Bloody hell I wish my other half was as patient & understanding as yours are!! (or are ye all divorced now?? ) - Now thats what I would call a PROPER session!

The Wexford coast seems to be really producing the fish these last few weeks (not before time - fishing has been nearly as poor as the weather!). Plenty of macks everywhere too, followed by bass of course.
I haven't seen macks so lively in a few years, they're even turnin up in places they've never been seen before.
Roll on the weekend and a few calm days...!

BTW, did you get the Peacock on a Pennel or a flapper?

You put me on 2 nice fish last friday :D :D :D The biggest Smoothie, if not the best Bass of the night.

I've not mentioned it to Brian yet, but I've just though about maybe having a trip west side this weekend. I've had a good week at work and it kind of makes me want to celebrate.... by having a trip your side of this island     ...........its about time I sampled some of this infamous West of Ireland fishing

Be sure to let us know when heading West and we'll sqeeze in a session (!) or two

Maybe this weekend :?: :!:
