Keith,
I've a Shimano 4000 size baitrunner, deadly thing, dont use it that often but its a great little reel!

If you've the money to spend i'd go for a Shimano reel, cant be beaten!

You could do a lot worse than a Stradic 4000 and loaded with braid, its a great little reel. Personally for spinning I prefer the Stradic to the Baitrunner, I tend to use my Baitrunner mostly for pike fishing these days, but tbh thats just personal preference both are great reels.

I'm planning on getting the Stradic 4000 as well, be interested to see how you lads get on with it.
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing rods.

i find the baitrunner the best, but is this considered a fresh water reel? i thought it was so it needs extra care and attention in saltwater

I'd buy the Stradic, too!
But dont forget to buy the front drag version (FA, FB, FI or FH), because they are more resistant and have a better drag! I use a TwinpowerFA and feel very good with it, but it might cost more than you want to spend.
I've got Baitrunners in my home country too, but I'd never put them close to any salt water... ;-)
And to be honest, they are no spinnfishing reels, but quite good for carp and pike fishing.

In germany a lot of anglers use the cardiff for larger baits in fresh water, too! Have fun with it wayne! Do you know whether it's salt water resistant? An other good baitcaster for sea angling might be the Abu Revo Inshore, that is realy salt water resistant.

cheers!
