Colin,

The MagElite left side plate is a pig to get back on if you try to replace it like you would do a normal 6500.

Here's what you do....take off the right side plate...remover the spool....then put the left side plate onto the frame....put the spool back in and replace the right side plate...job done.

That is the easiest way to do it....works every time, that was a tip given me by Peter Coogan the Abu tech.

Hope its helped you.

Tom.

had the same prob myself, wen i took it apar the fecken thing exploded into parts (not literally) and i kid you not i spent 26 hours straight trying to get it back together, even took another apart to see how it was done and couldnt get it back together. Des Frazer in southside can do it for you if your stuck, or else do what i did and through stubbornness and ignorance DIY

26 hours   wow!!

The problem with the MagElite left side plate is the "slidy" it needs to be set at between 4 & 6 to get it centred onto the cage but you got to jiggle it a little....you can get it on and find the slidy is tight and hard to move.

Take it from me....the easiest and fastest way is to do what I said above, it does work everytime and the slidy always works properly.

first of all get these two pieces in front of you.

now, the two pieces in the pics underneath have red circles around certain bits. what you need to do is fit these two bits together.

here is a pic of how it turns out.

now fit the mags back to the frame. turns out like this.

Then its just a matter of getting the left side plate back on. It may take a few attempts.
