Bound to be contentious, but if you had a choice between an Abu 6500 C3 Mag, a Daiwa SL30SH and a Penn 525 Mag, which would you choose and why?

I had to make this decision six months ago when I was in the market for a rod and reel. I discounted the Slosh because it had no mag breaks. It was touch and go after that between the ABU and the 525 Mag. In the end I opted for the Mag because of the its higher retrieval rate and sturdier construction. If I was to buy a second multiplier I would go for the ABU and set it up for clean beach work only, leaving the Mag for mix ground and rock marks.
By the way, I notice that there is another hot thread about mail order versus local purchasing. For the record I bought the Penn Vendetta/525 Mag combo for EUR300 from Peter Horne in Blarney. This was cheaper than the UK mail order prices before postage! Not all the local suppliers are ripping off their customers and it is worth shopping around and haggling.

Having both the Penn and ABU,
I say go for the Penn! why? its dam well near bullet proof, parts are very easy to get, ie the bearings if you like playing silly buggers with them''''?
+ if you buy a 535 and burn out a cluch plate, a 525 fits
Daiwa SL30SH: too big.......
Abu is more for clean ground, which brings us to the important part,
what type of fishing will you be doing????????

525 MAG
I think you have answered the question yourself. I would recommend the 525 Mag, takes a bit of modification out of the box, unlike the Abu, but much more robust. The modification you require depends upon your ability and the rod. Good Luck
