#1 Post by hairyconger »

anything other than grips are often used for searching out the bottom contours of the seabed. making use of the surf or current to allow your rig to travel. various leads such as flat, round, watch or pyramid are used to speed or slow this movement. flat leads can be used to over rough ground to allow the rig to rise to the surface quickly on retrieve. watch leads can be useful for twitching rigs as they kick up the sand as they are twitched/retrieved slowly.

Saw somewhere that pyramid leads were designed to dig into the sand to stop them moving ????

yeah Pat that's true, but depending on tide flow or surf they can get dragged along slowly.

watch leads are deadly for flats..it keeps the rig closer 2 the ground

Cheers Mark, to be honest I dont bother too much with anything other than grips or plain, if I am using grips then I don' bother worrying about weight and use 6 Oz as I want the bait to stay put anyway. I will change the plains depending on what Iwant to do on the day. I see the point in using watch leads to kick up sand when moving the bait around but I don't feel they get the bait any closer to the ground. I also see the point in flats to try and get the weight up faster. Again these are only opinions and not contradictions of others ideas.
