Worm baits

I got some nice ragworm in the tackle shop in Westport a while ago. There must be some around as well that you could dig. Failing that you could always fall back on mackerel.

baits?

The tackle shop in question is Hewetson's, very helpful guys in there, the ragworm is usually only available at weekends. The many saltwater inlets between Westport and Newport hold masses of bait- black lug, blow lug, good sized harbour rag, white rag and a few clams, but digging is very difficult in sticky mud with submerged rubble and peat. There are plenty of blowlug at Bertra strand to the south, rather small generally but easier to dig in sand. Good luck!
