Sea Angler

#1 Post by round_ourway »

I was pleased to read an article on culdaff beach there during the week in the sea angler magazine. Have to get a run up and fish it soon.
I would love to find out what that stuff in the bottle was to get some better results.

was that a seperate trip they had over, i think the first run that steve souter etc got out on for a half day etc featured in an issue a few months back was actually done early in 2006 from what des mills told me? i could be wrong...
culdaff has always thrown uo decent numbers of turbot, but most of them are very small.
Not the BigPhil from Irish Angler mag, I'm the original, i swear!!!!

Turbot

#6 Post by drseafish »

Just a small question that seemed to tie into this thread. I know of some marks around Belmullet & Achill and in North Mayo that throw up small turbot and from the article you get them along the Donegal cost. Why have I never had one on some of the Beaches in Sligo. Ok it may be my gross inability to catch turbot but I often use baits such as mackerel and sand-eel which I have had plenty of sea-trout. Is it possible that turbot need a more sloping beach (deeper water) or is the type of ground. Any ideas? or has anyone caught a Turbot from any of the storm beaches in Sligo (Enniscrone, Strandhill, Rosses Point or Mullaghmore). I want to catch one on one of my trips up there this year, so any help would be appreciated.

Ive fished culdaff this time last year, we had turbot, coalies, dogs, sea trout and flounder, I was catching all the turbot on a cocktail of sandeel & white bait. They have got big mouths and a hole sandeel or half a launce wont go a stray, on a 2/0 to 4/0 hook, that should pick up the decent fish.
