New Reel

#1 Post by pablo »

Howya .. I'm after a new reel and have heard Shimano are the way to go. It's mainly for shore casting ... I'd like it to have a bait runner too. Soooooooo.... is Shimano the way to go? I dont really mind what I spend (within reason :!: ) so any advice would be appreciated!!

Cheers,
Pablo

grauvell so a cracking bait runner its big enuf for beach work and i think they sell for 120 yo yos .I bought a winchwood one for light work last year i use it with braid but it wouldnt be strong enuf for beach casting, if you are fishing light the shimano ones are the dogs swingers .

for the bigger general long disatnce beach, or big fish stuff, you can also go for a shimano ultegra xta 12000, they have a baitrunner incorporated, as do one of the smaller 8000 biomasters.

the smaller baitrunner 5000,6000 and 8000 are more suited to spinning etc or for bass rods, but they d work ok with braid on the normal beach rods, although the ultegras and biomasters are built more specifically for this kind of fishing
Not the BigPhil from Irish Angler mag, I'm the original, i swear!!!!

The diawa regal also has a freespool system & are supposed to be indestructable.

Not sure about the newer ones but the older ones were made from tough plastic so suitable for the salt.

a great reel from the shimano stable the LDC , LONG DISTANCE,
CASTER, has the superb baitrunner system, super tough reel, would
handle any beach-fishing or rough ground marks, some are even
being used for uptideing from the boat. you can get them round the
150 sterling mark or less.
