Donaghadee Pier,Co Down,15-1-07

#1 Post by Davy Murdoch »

People:myself,ronald

Duration:7:15pm-10:30pm

Tide:high @ 8pm

Weather:cold,calm

Bait:rag,mack,squid,sandeel

Rigs:2&3 hook flappers,pulleys

Results:pollack,coalie,cod,poocod,shore rockling,5 bearded rockling,shanny.

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report:Not a bad session.Plenty of bites from the moment we started but all fish were small.I had about 20 tiny pollack while trying to catch a shanny for the species hunt comp then ronald join in and almost lost the mini rod(again) :wink: when a cod of 1.5lb shot off with his bait and i had to stand on the rod before it was dragged off the pier.That was the biggest fish of the night and the fishing slowed down during the last hour.I ended up catching all seven species and Ronald had cod,coalie,pollack and poorcod :)

alright livid,you should get yourself some rag or lug and head down to a rock mark anywhere in belfast lough if you want cod like ronalds.there was loads of them last year up to nearly 3lb.you`ll lose some gear but you`ll also get fish.

drew,you`ve no excuse you live close to another spot thats got cod like that.the place with the big stone :wink:

nice cod mate were you fishing straight into a kelp bed the colour of the thing, its mad the way different locations and environments through up different coloured species, i was fishing toberpatrick its a sandy beach and the cod were the same colur as the whiting with little freckles on there back, but if i go to dalkey the cod are brown or sometimes a brownish green colour, only really caught the red ones around the forthy foot which is snag heaven.
