Fished it last september with a few friends on a night session and it only produced one flounder. Then about a mounth previous to that, i fished it from my boat and had two plaice on mackeral strip. The boat was only in about 11,12 feet deep. The next time i head down there for a shore session i'll try wading out, and cast at distance.....

when fishing portmuck try muck island side that's were most of the good fish are its hard to get to so kit up light but its not a place to be fishing at night. you can get good fish there i can only tell you what i have had but i am sure there are bigger fish there 3lb ballen warse, Pollock 3-4lb , cod 2lb and Meany more when fishing it use rotten bottom links as you can get snagged and pulley rigs

good hunting and tight lines Merv

Islandmagee

#11 Post by alannelson »

Islandmagee area can be worth a chuck or two although it can be slow. I think the fishing is better in the summer months for this area lots of small fish at Ballylumford altough it does throw up the odd good coly codling. The painted rock area at Brownsbay is full of dogs at any range with a chance of a good pollock especial in the summer. I think Portmuck fishes better in the summer, dawn with a high tide is brilliant when the mackrel are in. All of which are good size last year I had 2 glow in the dark delta eels on at first light a mackrel took one of the eels and then I could feel another fish jump on which was either a big coly or pollock must have been no smaller than 8 lb but slipped the hook when my mate tried to land it for me. There is a chance of catching a few haddock from Portmuck habour there are also congers around Portmuck and Brownsbay but don't usual seem to go past double figures.
