Iniscrone Pier. Sligo 4-Jan 07

#1 Post by kieran »

People: Bruce Vaughan and Kieran Hanrahan

Duration: too long (about an hour)

Tide: full, dropping

Weather: awful, force 5-6, bitter

Bait: Mackerel

Rigs: Two hook flapper, float fishing

Results: 2 crabs

Catch and Release:: Yes, but grudgingly

Report: Thought the lead was coming back at me when I tried to cast over the wall into the wind, so decided to fish into the harbour. Awful. Bitterly cold, could not even move about owing to teh crutches. Light on the pier is halfway down, seats all the way, what's the logic there! Bruce has one take but lost it on the way in, I had a crab and got destroyed with floating weed. Big swells, serious rip current.

Gave it up as a bad job after an hour (you know its time to go when the orange spots appear in the middle of your blue hands) and retired to the pub for a dinner! Pier is in good knick with the upper walkway totally resurfaced, railings at the end, ideal for the summer / warmer evenings!
Kieran Hanrahan

Time spent fishing is never time wasted...

2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks
