Daiwa Emcast Evo 5500 Reel

Just bought an Daiwa Emcast Evo 5500 Reel . Nice smooth retrive due to the 7 ball bearings and cast's great. Line lay is fine. One major problem with it is the surf caught my tripod and knocked my rod into the surf!! The reel was washed full of sand witch i washed of much as i could .With so many moving parts it's hard to get it all . After washing it just wouldn't work right was stiff and i could hear the sand grinding inside it.Even the arm wouldn't flip back over after casting. I had to take it home and take it apart just to get it working right. What sort of reel cant take a bit of sand :roll:

did you buy it new one owner.

Send to daiwa they will service or replace. I use daiwa fly gear and have sent broke rods and reels back some of i broke not bad workmanship or anything. They serviced reels and replaced rods

What sort of reel cant take a bit of sand

Most of them unfortunately.... :evil: Its just some are easier to clean than others. A similar thing happened to me 2 years ago on my first run out with my Emcast. Thing was a bugger to take apart and clean and to this day still makes a funny noise on retrieve... :? Whether its some residual sand or some dodgy rebuilding I dont know. Damn fine reel all the same and it hasnt affected its performance one bit.

I find Multipliers are much easier dealt with after a dunk, FS can be a nightmare with their little springs and the like.

You're not the only one with that problem Pete. The Emcast Plus I have makes the funny noise as well and I've oiled and greased every orifice. As you say it doesn't seem to affect the performance though.

Have to say this destroyed a Daiwa reel on me too :x once the sand got in and the reel never recovered.Bloody shame it was a good reel too :(
