Spare ones I keep in Plano plastic boxes. You can get them in some hardware stores (Bolgers in Gorey or Woodies in Sandyford). They're good because they're almost indestructible, they have movable dividers to suit different size lures, they don't open accidentally and any small bits (spare split rings, etc.) won't get mixed up.

When I'm actually fishing, I use a Shimano lure case. This has tubes for the lures and you can strap it around your waist. See here:

I bought a couple of 2 tier Plano boxes from Woodies. They are available in a range of sizes and can be customised to hold whatever you want. I use one for all my plugs, one for spinners and another for holding every single little item of terminal tackle/rig building bits you could ever need. Probably the best thing I ever bought for tidying up the tackle box. Not overly cheap from what I remember but you wont regret paying the few quid. Tackle shops will flay you on the price of these, Woodies or the like a better bet TBH.

Found a pic of the plano here (I've no idea about the website, they just popped up first in Google!!) ...

There are various sizes and shapes. They're by far the best version of this type of box that I've seen.

In the end I bought the shimano lure case and it's alot easier to access then getting a piano box out of a backpack and opening. For storing lures a tip I picked up from Mick Browns Pike fishing book was to hang them off polysterine blocks vertically. If kept in piano boxes their more likely to rust, damage each other and cross contaminate.

Good point Donagh. I use the shimano case when I'm actually fishing, and keep spare lures in plano boxes in the car or bag. I try to let them dry before putting them away, but doesn't always work and you end up replacing hooks and rings every few weeks ... :?

I blast the bejaysus out of them with WD40 at regular intervals and have had no issues. Cross contamination doesnt happen as they are in seperate compartments. Your right though, they wouldnt be the best thing for carrying around. However..... They do fit into the front pocket on the Anyfish Anwhere smock :D

I still like using the polysterine boards as its cheap, all your lures are visible and can be selected easily, the lures can are open to the air to dry off after being rinced and can be easily blasted by the can of wd40.

I use the piano boxes for storing hooks, beads, swivels etc and up until now have gone through the tackle shop so thanks for the tip. I recently bought an AA smock myself and it really stood up to the rain last Sunday and very comfortable even with me wearing two jumpers underneath.

saw a tip on rex hunt - dust your lures / hooks with talcum powder before putting em away - soakks up the moisture and stops em rusting
