Here's a story about hooking yourself.......friend of mine went to Florida a few years back (mad keen angler and very good at it) they were staying in Orlando....he wanted to go fishing real bad, he got up soon one morning drove for about 2 hours to the ocean, parked and got down to the beach, started to get his gear ready.
As he tied his hook on, he bit down on the tag end and pulled, his thumb had been in the bend of the 6/0 hook as normal, it slipped and the hook went right through his cheak, in one side and out the other.....right, he had no pliers or anything to try and remove the hook, so he just got on with his fishing, he said there wasnt another soul on the beach until mid morning, no fishermen, just joggers and strowlers....he said one guy came to ask him if he'd caught anything and asked "why you got a hook in your mouth" his reply was " I'm a punk" the guy just walked away    he carried on fishin for a good while like that.
He drove back to where they were staying, hopeing his wife would be out at the pool or something, she wasnt, he got a right telling off, anyways! he got a pair of pliers from somewhere, cut the barb off and removed the hook.....he got some stick about it for ages off the lads.
Just thought I'd share someone elses misery
