#1 Post by ifitswims »

hi ,

i've been lurking around this site for a few weeks ... thought it was time to register ..

i'm back to shore fishing after a 14 year break ... just trying to get to grips to what has changed ...

it used be zziplex rods , 6500 ct's , petzl headlamps, 12'' size limits ...

i'm getting some gear back together and was wondering what is currently a good headlamp ???

tks ...

Welcome to the site.

A few of the guys here use Silva head lamps. The one with the Luxeon LED seems to be the business. I bought a Luxeon headlamp off e-bay (wasn't around 14 years ago and can be very handy for a bargin) and saved myself a few quid. Not as good as the Silva though.

On the match scene there is a long rod revaloution at the moment. 16 foot rods are norm. There are a few brands out there. I'm fishing a Greys Triplex at the moment. If you do a search you will find a good bit of info.

Good luck getting back into fishing and hopefully we'll see you at one of the meets.

welcome back to sea angling and joining in the fun of this forum.

Fishing will not have changed to much all the basics still there good bait and rigs and good bait presentation. All these will never change so you ok on that point.

As for head lamp i still use my old petlz head lamp i had years ago i would worry to much about that i would just get out there and enjoy the sport. If you a northern lad we have meets may be a good way to see what people using.

Zziplex still dogs b..ls but if looking a change have a look at grauvell rods have come on leaps

tks gents ..

16' .... wow - this primarily for more distance / bite detection ? are these two piece or more ??

i've had a trip in the last few weeks so just getting the missing pieces sorted .. will have a look at the Silva lights ..

when you say matches are these IFSA events or are there more organisations ?

i did all my fishing in waterford / cork area but now based in dublin .. but am interested in joining your online club and hopefully get to a few meets ..

rods

#5 Post by pookie5488 »

Yes there are mixed views on long rods some like some dont.
Myself would never go over 14-15ft just gives you that we bit more distance. I have used for last 5 mnth on off but now have got a few long rods and will use mainly this year.

I still use my penn mags and normal 12ft some times but at night time returning to fixed spool and a long rod is just a bit more easy to control and in turn enjoy my fishing.
