favourite trace/rig and why???????????????

#1 Post by carry on nursing »

My fav rig is a 2 hook scratcher rig as good to see whats out there and what they take.

Rob my hubby uses a up and over rig a lot as he likes a long flowing trace.

What is yours and why???????????/

i like wish bone pulleys for clean ground, they enable you to fish a very large scent trail over a concentrated area with the chance of a double hook up

for rough or mixed ground itd got ta be a pennel pulley rig, its nearly fool proof.

I like a two up one down clipped rig, with a long flowing snood on the bottom. Sea angler showed one like it a couple of months ago

For me its a 2 hook clipped down with different size hooks, usually a 1/0 and a 3/0.

2/3 hooked clipped down fishes well with most of the antrim and down coast. For snaggy ground i use single hook pulleys and if needs be a rotten bottom device attached

Would definitely go for the 1 up 1 down loop rig/ian golds/portsmouth rig too IF I had to pick just one.

Cracking rig and so versatile and covers alot of the 2 hook rigs others have mentioned here too with the advantage that it can be clipped down...

The way in which the baits are clipped down, one behind the other and both directly behind the lead means this is one of the ultimate distance rigs

Someone asked for a pic so here goes...

better clarify snood lengths and that so it all makes sense.

the rig body is about 3 to 4 foot long.

the top snood is between 2 to 3 foot long.

the distance between the cascade swivel to the hook on the bottom snood is about 6 inches.

the term loop rig therefore comes from the loop of slack line between the cascade swivel and swivel to the rig body once the two hooks are clipped down.

great rig. tensioning it via the SRT spring can be a bit fiddly to ensure everything sits right, but is well worth the messing around.

I would b inclined to say which ever rig is least visable to the fishes or offers least resistence to a wary fish. I tend to fish simple one hook paternoster rig in the surf and a running ledger otherwise
