Cleggan pier produced good size mackeral and pollock for me.
Also salt lake on the left hand side of wire bridge as you head out of clifden heading for ballyconeely. Took over 30 pollock out of here in approx 2 hours.
Doolan pier (Doolan Co.Clare) Fish it in the evening/dusk, good size mackeral and pollock to be had here. Also a fair ammount to be caught.
Come to think of it I caught a lot of pollock! Wish I was so lucky with other species! :)

Drop Carrigaholt Beach, Kilkee Beach and the Blue Pool.
the beaches are kinda hit and miss and other clare venues mentioned are way more productive and reliable. avoid the blue pool coz you really do need to know what you're doing. too many lads have been killed on that over the years. saying that the bridges of ross have killed people too and i recommend them to everyone!!!!!

In apiril carrigaholt can fish well with a spring flood tide and at distance with mackerel. Poulnasharry would be good at low water with sand eel.

Hi Donagh,
I was just looking at the SFB link you put up there. we're all well away of the now near mythical status of ailroe point or whatever they call it (the one where gilbey fished) but there are 4 other near by marks that i have never noticed before. Have you ever heard of anyone fishing these marks or catching fish?!
I like the comment made about Ailroe Point with regards the angling survey carried out in recent years and the high concentration of ray! pity none of us have ever seen one there!!!

Fisheries board marks booklets usually date back to the 1980s so must be taken with pinch of salt but their a good starting point. I was talking to Julian shambrook over the phone and he said he had 6 rays from 6 casts from Aillroe the day they filmed but if you see the program the water is very silty which is usully a good sign. The sea angler team fished aillroe the june weekend when the estuary was as clear as a bell and had fish at distance to sand eel. Its all about being on the mark when its fishing well. I haven't fished this area much as I normaly fish after work and don't like sitting in traffic but Neilus has fished some of these marks. If I was to target one it would be Kildysert down as New Quay as some seriously big fish have been caught there.

Would agree with Donagh completely about some of the marks in the Estury. It all depends on the right conditions for the right marks.
That New Quay near Kildysert though has some mighty fishing especially if your into your conger and huss.
There are some marks on the Limerick side that might not be as accessable with similar fishing though.

Thanks guys..... lots of marks and info. to look into there. 70% of the trip will be unplanned, just stopping at marks that looks like they would prouduce fish. Im trying to familiarize myself with whats likly to be caught in certian areas and countys, and gaining info. on tackle shops, b&bs and where to dig fresh bait etc......(some good pubs as well). We are doing the trip in a campervan so will be fishing a good few nights on the beach, should be good, even if we dont catch a fish.

I would highly recommend Trannarossan Bay in the north of Donegal. Its about 3 - 4 miles away from Downings! Theres top class beach and rock fishing here. I've had pollack to near double figures. There is loads of other marks to fish here but i would say that this is one of the best places i've ever fished. All these marks are on a stretch of road called the Atlantic drive. There is also a little fishing village there with accomadation for fishermen. Also beside Trannarossan Bay there is a hostel that you can stay in which is very cheap.
