Did it kick back into gear during a previous cast?

Did you check your pinion and main drive gear for damage? or maybe your spindle or spool are bent!! IMO

ah you'd be surprised on how temprimental those reels are.. my 6500 got a small knock and has been screaming since..

by the sound of it check your brakes... if its not that is it the spool hitting the rim anywhere :? :? :?

Any multiplier reel can be damaged by tightening the spool tension too tight, if it is overtightened it wrecks the bearings but in extreme cases it will bend the spindle.

The spool should have a very slight bit of side to side movement at all times, if it is still too fast then use the magnetic brakes to slow the reel, if it is still too fast then change the oil in the bearings to someting like red rocket fuel.

The newer Abu reels don't have an anti reverse pawl, they have a directional bearing and though they give less hassle, I have seen one where the bearing cage was broken up but this pretty much jammed the whole reel.

Hairy, if you dont have a clue what you are looking at, give it to someone that does, or even take it to a local tackle shop, they should be able to help.

If its an old 6500 with a ratchet that could be worth looking at but its the cheaper reels that usualy go like that.

What a load of crap!! the guy had a crack-off and it looks to be to blame for the minor problem and your telling him to act like that with the manufacturer. ABU reels are among the best in the world, as a company they look after their customers IMO, why take such a bad attitude or worse still tell someone else to take a bad attitude.

Hairy...the problem is an easy one to fix, it may cost you a little money if the shop does it for you, but from what your saying the reel is not at fault, least of all ABU. I would be the first to jump onto a company if their product didnt come up to scratch, thats not the case here from what I'm reading.

And the customer is not always right either, some arent even right in the head!

Tom.
