Slea head, Dingle, July 9

Dave B and I made the 147 mile drive to Slea head yesterday in seaarch of some good rock fishing.
We fished from 9am -5pm, High water at 11 am.Weather was glorious, fished in sizzling sunshine with a light cool north easterly breeze.
The fishing- outstanding
We started off spinning with leadheads and jelly worms and german sprats in search of pollock.Strangley, nowt on the jellyworms but the pollck couldnt get enough of the sprat. Over the course of the day, and constantly, we caught 20+ pollock to 5.5. pounds.
Then the mackerel arrived, and with em the bigger pollock. We kept 10 macks for the table and a few for bait. Again, on the sprat.The killing method was actually fishing the sprat on the "drop". Cast out , keep a tight line and the fish would hit the spinner on the way down. We were counting down to 11 - 14 seconds for the mackerel. If the spinner dropped to 17-19 seconds, we hit the pollock underneath em.
We were fishing into 60 feet of water over a kelp covered reef. This reef broke our hearts, as 3 pollock around the 8+mark buried our lures into the kelp and made us look like complete amateurs.
For a break from spinning, we set up a couple of conger rods, had 3 runs with one strap landed and two proper conger lost in said bed of kelp.
Switched to float fishing, and caught more pollock!!
