Report: First report, not very successful though. I headed down to Greystones pier with the girlfriend. Nice enough weather, mostly sunny, wind picked up a few times from the back (West to East?) which made it a bit chilly. Found somebody there already. He was fishing with two rods, let me use one of them and some ragworms. Thing is I only have a small rod which I used with some lures, plastic eels (both with and without mackerel). So he came over and told me I could use one of his and showed me the rig, how to set the bait, gave me a few tips... Right gentleman! Being used to casting my 1-2oz weights you can imagine what I looked like just trying to hold the big rod, nevermind trying to cast! I'm happy I didn't kill anyone!! Suffice to say I could cast further with my small rod... :oops:

Anyway, I caught small whiting, which I released. I only saw the helpful fella catch a nice wrasse just a couple of yards from the wall. Other people caught more whiting. I also "caught" a few tips and a bit of practice and enjoyed the day out so not bad overall. Being a beginner I'm sure I'm doing thousands of things wrong... e.g. is it the right time of the year for spinning with lures and feathers?

Only a beginner meself mate but think feathers only for mackerel.. There all pretty much cleared off now... Good bait probly your best bet.. Or baited lures

I did bait the lures (big and small chunks of mackerel) but no luck. Also used them alone but nothing. Got the whiting with the longer rod and the paternoster. I heard you can get other stuff with the feathers, perhaps in other latitudes...
