Major dig out needed please!

#1 Post by blaker »

Hi folks,

A friend of mine is doing a thesis on the gilthead sea bream. Its quite interesting and from what I understand (science talk??) it would be very illuminating in relation to this fish in Ireland.

Anyway shes been unfortunate in that she has not been able to secure any "samples" due to unforseen circumstances. The research hinges on her having scale or skin picks to analyse.

I appreciate that the season for these is ending but if anybody has one in the freezer or catches one soon all she needs is A SMALL CLIP OF FIN/SCALES and a bit of info on where it was caught.

Shes really quite stuck lads so any help would be rapturously received. Any and all collection expenses will be met. If you could PM me with any questions or help it would be much appreciated.

I think Cortaz bags a few of them every year. Might be worth asking him...

Sorry if this is a little late.. Try the fish mongers on Howth Harbour. There were plenty of GHSB in there during the summer. The are imported form Greece or Turkey where they are ocean farmed. Hope that helps.

Hi all. I suggested the fishmongers alright but it seems that they must be Irish and that knowing the location of their catch is important too.

From what I gather its a study on their migratory patterns and to which lineage of the species the Irish ones belong to.

Cheers for the points lads and if anyone hears of one at the bottom of a freezer anywhere in the country let me know!
