Blue sharks from Kerry???

#1 Post by StevieP »

I've a notion next year to take the boat (24' Hardy fisher) over to Valentia for the summer and try to catch a shark. Anyone know any likely spots within an hour - 25 miles or so - of say Portmagee.
I would have thought once you're away from the land, in blue water, you'd be in with a chance if you put down a good chum trail.
Any advice would be gratefully received, might even have space for a couple of crew!
Cheers guys

Shark

Steve,
I moved your post to the "real" forum.

I think you have it sussed already. Blue water, good dubby, good drift and you stand a good chance on blues.

Blue shark marks seem to be a bit like mackerel marks, a moveable feast :D

You could always bring the boat up to smerwick harbour on the dingle side of the bay. There used to be a charter boat in Ballydavid which fished blue shark.

The skipper has since retired but i do no there were alot of blues around. He was actually on the show predators.Would be worth a try....
