After hours of waiting I final managed to hook this bugger!!
The Mullet didnt take until the tide started dropping. I was using tesco cat food for ground bait, it was like flies to s@*#, It was great ground bait. Also used a whole mackerel flapper at close range to get them in close. Spotted one mullet in close trying to chew half the mackerel!! It was easily over 5lb. Found it hard to hook them, missed alot, used tiny mackerel chunks on a size 10 hook, done the trick. Great scrap on light tackle!

Nice one Mark, thats something I couldn't manage to do this summer :oops: Did you ever try them at the sewage outfall at the new pier? I know they don't let people on to fish it now but at the start we fished at a few times and got plenty of whiting.

Ive been fishing them from the old slip across from Black Rock Pier, there is a sewage outlet here, also just as you enter black rock pier, there is another sewage outlet, just were all the angling boat are berthed. I really wanted to add a few more species to the list but time ran short. Is it too late in the year for ray?

Nah Mark they are still around, water temps are still well up. There were a few caught (didn't witness to be sure) from the new pier before it got closed to anglers so if you could blag your way onto it..... :wink:

I can get onto the pier no problem, but I think they will chase you if your fishing!! Yeah, I was told that someone had a good thornback of it, the far end of the pier is just across from the gunwell where there are always a few taken. So obviously they could be taken from the pier aswell. Im suprised that the odd codling wont show up aswell as there are plenty of whiting to be had.
