St Johns Point

#1 Post by SHANE R »

Hi all
I'm heading to St Johns Point at the end of next week for a days fishing. I have fished here a few times before, always in the gulley between the headland and the rock with all the sea gulls nests on it, and while I've had great sport with the wrasse I was wondering is there anywhere else around the area I'm missing out on. Also I was wondering about Gunwell Head and is it worth a few hours fishing.

Thanks
Shane

The Gunwell is a bit hit and miss Shane, more miss than hit in my opinion. There were some great catches of congers of it about ten years ago but I haven't heard of anything particularly big from it in a while. Outside of that you'll get wrasse, pollock, rockling and mackerel from the rough whilst out on the sand there are a few flats, doggies and the odd ray. Its really deep water so there is the chance of anything, try fishing it into darkness for whiting and more doggies.
Sea Species(25) bass, codling, whiting, turbot, seatrout, stingray, pollock, coalfish, longspine scorpion, ballan wrasse, dogfish, ling, pouting, poor cod, dab, mackerel, smelt, sandeel, launce, bull huss, painted ray, thick lip mullet, golden grey mullet, rock goby.
Fresh Water (2) brown trout, sea trout
