Seals

Are seals a good indicator of fish?
Is it worth concentrating on their favourite spots when they're not around?

this is a hard one to answer Donagh. i have often caught fish where seals are present. however there are places i have fished that have produced only small catches everytime i have fished them- 1 or 2 fish being the norm. maybe the seals diet is more varied than we think?

Certainly a seal will want to get maximum rewards for the least amount of energy it uses so it will hunt in places with the greatest concentration of fish.

Leads me to think that if the seals aren't there, then neither are the fish!

Ask yourself this.

Seals are here, there for! there must be fish? but where are they hiding.
Close to shore, look for rocky outcrops weed beds etc, then fish into them.
It works for me!

I suppose the question should be what size of fish the seals are feeding on or if they're feeding in the first place. They seem to be blamed for a reduction in the number of fish in an area and putting fish off their feed.
