Unfortunately it's not as straight forward as that. All conditions for a given mark need to be taken into account. For example, many rocky reefs will fish well as the tide flood over the reef. Dawn and dusk will also usually improve your chances. On the other hand, one of the beaches I fish regularly fishes best two hours after high tide in the dark, but only for a short period of time.

Basically, unless you've researched a mark over time or find someone willing to give out local knowledge, you will need to clock up the rod hours ...

I was a morning and evening bass man until I fished recently with a bass gilly in Ballinskellig and caught Bass at 2.30pm and 5pm in blazing sunshine.

So as teacher said it is very much down to the venue..!

Timings for bass

As a bass guide i can offer you the following.

Optimum times early morning/late evening with flooding tide.

After that - any time is suitable provided you have done your mark research, this is where you have the opportunity to make your personal fishing possible - often contravening the recognised 'expert opinions' of which there are many!

hi there, personally ive spent hundreds of hours at the bass over 5 years,my personal reckoning is that no matter where you fish it dont matter about best times as such, if the fish are there, you will get them.

I think the secret is finding out what times Bass visit a particular venue.
I do favour early morning as they are less spooked and have caught more at this time than any other but I do believe they visit some marks during the day. I have been lucky to find some of these over the years, some notably in Kerry and Wicklow of all places..!

I may suggests to check out where you would like to fish at low water and get a digital photo of the topography of low tide and you will be able to see where the rocks weeds and other structures are etc as the bass like to hang around these rocks weeds etc I find the surface poppers like a chug bug is good in these areas the incomming tide seems to be good for this type of fishing but there are good venues in the shannon estuary where high water is best.
