I have never heard of Targa I'm afraid but if I were you I would go for the Ron Thompson Combo presuming that RT reel is a Fixed Spool? Cheap unknown multipliers will have you tearing your hair out in frustration as between nasty birdsnests bits fall off.

i have the targa combo

the reel is a bit crap tbh. if you get it take off the Level wind cuz it will break in a few weeks anyway and jam everything up. take it apart and put some thick grease on the handle support bearing cuz its not sheilded from the elements so will be dead in no time.

mine has started slipping badly now the gears arent meshing correctly so something is bent somewhere i expect its the main handle bearing but mine rusted and fell apart so the cage is still stuck in the reel body!!!

apart form that it good enough if the handle bearing stands up mine would still be ok. all metal gears and everything, but tricky to get to grips with.

the rod i like. its light and sensitive but i think its bit too soft to be casting the 6oz it claims it can, better suited to 3-5oz.

its done me well ive had it a year and managed to get used to the reel and im now happy to upgrade to something better but will be keeping the rod.
species so far 2007 (18....)
Conger, Codling, Coalfish, Shore Rockling, Dab, Flounder, Dogfish, 3 beard rocking, Pollack, Whiting, Pouting, Red cod, Poor Cod, Tadpole fish, Short and Long splined sea sculpin, TopKnot, Cukcoo Ray,

Targets: fish over 10lb, eel over 20lb (came VERY close almost :( )

Try one onf the penn combo's suitable for both fs and multi.....£135 will give you a 12ft or 15ft rod with penn surfmaster reel....if you ever fell like jumping to multis these roads do both.....maybe an option to look at
