Labasheeda fishing

#1 Post by Crack-Off »

Hi guys,

Just wondering , does anyone have any info on how this place is fishing at the moment?

Heading over there in bout 3 weeks.

Just wondering whats the best tides etc... Or are there better marks?

Travelling from wexford so would like to make it worthwhile.

Ray and huss being the target species.

Many thanks,

If you mean by labasheeda (theres more than one mark) aillroe the place Henry Gilbey fished then I can't say. I've never heard anyone with a good word to say about the place but I'm sure it can produce on its day. Henry Gilbey said it produces on spring 2 hours either side of slack. When he fished it their was winds preventing preventing them fish rock marks this is usually good for the fishing in the estuary marks.

Hi Will,

Thanks for ur info......Seems to be a bad spot to me....Wonders if henry gilbey's fish were caught elsewhere and put in a tank...he he..

Nah seriously, Carrigaholt and Poulnasherry seem better options to me too...

Can i ask what tides, conditions etc you fished?

Many thanks

As said before I've heard many blanks from this place by anglers who fish it because it was on telly. I only fished it the once with Neilus and we could only meet up on a weak tide with NW winds and both blanked around this time of year a few years ago. That weekend their were strong tides and wexford anglers he knows had a cracking session with a seriously big ray caught. Seeing as Henry Gilbey said it fish well on spring high and low we went to fish it a few weeks later on the biggest high tide of the year and their wasn't room left for one rod rest. I've never gone back since.

I really fish the limerick side and I don't fish the clare estuary side outside of competitions so only really know carrigaholt and poulnasharry. I'd fish poulnasharry at low water with a preference for sand eel and carrigaholt on the flood with a with a preference for mackerel. I haven't fished the competitons much this year but on the august one 4 dogs were caught from carrigaholt with 30 anglers fishing though this place can fish well more so on a big spring as far as I can see. I might fish a comp on sunday and might have info then.

i fished the gilbey mark 2 summers ago and got one bite in 4 hours which resulted in a thornie of 10 lb just before i headed home
if it cant get its jaws round a 1/0 its not worth catching [ mullet excluded ]

Right ..... the report.......lol

We decided to fish L/sheeda the weekend just gone.....fished ailroe.. white gate..........3 hrs to bottom and bout half hour of rise.....

Me mate had two massive bites... hooked into one but lost it in close......
Result..no fish

Next day fished Killimer beach for an hour or so on top of tide....
Result ...no fish...

Moved to Inishmurray pier.....Start of the drop for bout two hours...
Result...no fish..

Went to Scotts in Kilkee... got absolutely hammered for two nights.....

This was our third time in the shannon in a year and a half and still not 1 ray or huss landed.

at least all the hen nights over there make up for the fishing lolol

I've said before the fishing in the Estuary is not as good as everyone thinks. Though it can be good if you happen to be in right place at the right time but thats down more to luck. There was a SW wind which should of been good but it was more strong than I'd like and tides were very neap. Saying that I wouldn't fish inishmurray on a big spring. I don't know the marks you fished well at all so I can't help. What I have noticed in the Estuary very small sections of a mark can fish well while 20 yards left you can blank. I've fished beside someone whos not catching while I am and we've switched and the reverse happens. If I'm not catching I'll up sticks and move to a different peg.
