Use a black surface lure, colour it in with a permanent marker if you have to. It sounds daft but black creates a really strong silhouette against the night sky. HTH.

ive read about that on american sites for large mouth bass on freshwater but would they work ok in calm sea?
noise and commotion is a good idea from the lure?

I like the yozuri minnow in Black and silver. The silver body is very holographic on these lures and reflects any available light really well. My number one lure for night Bass.

Was just gonna post the same question after last night's bass plugging session, when I fished for an hour in the dark but nothing was showing even with a bright yellow rapala.

I know from fly fishing that when it gets dark the fishing often improves.

Surely to god sight feeding goes out the Window in the Dark? :? Or does the Lateral Line Take over?

I guess the ambient light even at night is enough for fish to see the silhouette of a lure ... :?:

Hi guys
they use black lures with a redgill as a dropper in the us for striped bass. They stop using poppers as soon as it gets dark and switch to sub surface plugs. The key is a very very slow retrieve as the bait fish are not as wary in the dark!

even on the darkest of nights, fish near the surface can make out the silhoutte of a lure on the surface...do remember that fish also will detect the vibrations of the lure at reasonably close range as many fish hunt at night-time.

I have always stopped lure fishing just before dark but reckon at a session coming up soon in heaven (Kerry) I will try it. I have a great plugging spot down there that I will try but I believe the lures must be dark. Gotta be worth a try.

I'm not worried about whether the fish can see the lures. I'm more worried about whether I can find my way back after wading onto a precarious rocky foothold ...

bought a popper tonight which I will try at portstewart soon amongst others

also.. I was at benone/downhill tonight for 5 hours.
went to benone first and got a wee flounder on first cast. After that.. nothing. the little buggers were busy eating my bait tho. I moved to downhill for a few hours and same happened until about 8 and it just went quiet. There must have been 8-9 anglers there and not one got any bass... I aint lost any faith tho

Daft of me to forget but a buddy of mine had 3 bass in darkness recently on a silver Kilty lure fishing off a beach. I had a bass myself last week on a 30 year old small silver toby type thing, also in darkness off a beach.
