i use a small streth of hurly stick / golf stic rubery tape above and below the goints in my rod helps when fishing for mackrel when the rod becomes to slipy to pull apart at the end of a sesion

Another way of doing this is to get two people to stand either side of the rod and both people twist in opposite directions.
