illegal netting
i moved out to swords (in Co Dublin) from the city centre about two years ago, so i now live a stones throw away from the broadmedow river which drains into malahide estuary, it is a quite well known spot for specimin mullet with a few recorded each year, the river used to be a brilliant sea-trout fishery in the 70's and early 80's but sadly the sea-trout runs have declined with pollution and drainage problems. i walk by the river most evenings with the girlfriend, and over the last few weeks have noticed a good few sea-trout in the pools below the bridge, they were all mostly small with few above a 1lb. i obviously wasnt the only one to notice these fish, another fellow angler whom i see down here regularly recently remove a net which was ran accross the river by some of our eastern european friends, the eastern region fisheries board was called and to there credit arrived down to the river promptely. the fisheries board offier told me that these non nationals have being doin the same type of thing all over the country.

it appears our eastern european friends are fishing all ways and everywhere and taking everything - it was mentioned here before - they know there are very few regulations - and even less enforcement
