I have recently moved to Ennis. I am a bit of a novice and would like to try spinning for Mackerel. I'd be be grateful if anybody could reccommend a good fishing mark and any tips or tricks of the trade.

Hi Tallspoon,

If you want to just catch Mackerel Then Dunlickey 4 miles past Kilkee on the loop head drive scenic root. You can't spin from here as its a 100 foot drop just feather and you'd need heavy gear to get fish up. If you want to spin try any of the rock marks listed and you could pick up pollack as well but care is needed on the atlantic coast as a swell can come at any time.

Marks here:

Information and angling maps here:

BTW you'd be better putting this question in the shore forum. This is for posting tips.

There is also a place near ballyvaughan called newquay pier which is beside Linnanes pub and resturaunt which is great fun for spinning with regular tackle you would even catch em on light fly fishing gear if they are there

Hi

The outer arm of Liscannor harbour two hours before high water is a good option and close to Ennis. There is another rock mark, occassionally popular with swimmers called Cloghane, about five kilometres past Liscannor. It is not signposted but the locals will be able to direct you to it - if there are no swimmers, its good for pollack and wrasse too.

Time spent fishing is never time wasted...

2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks
