Where to fish in Carlingford ?

#1 Post by Conor H »

Anyone ever launched in Carlingford ? Where did you fish ? Was it in the bay or did you venture outside ? Thinking of launching in the next few weeks but wouldn't have the first clue where to fish as I've only ever been out there once, and it was probably the worst day's fishing I've ever had - too early in the season.

Any advice welcome.

fished it frequently from a boat over two seasons.

if its not tope or doggies then its nothing - you would be better advised fishing the shore a good chance of bass or sea trout

Try the wrecks of the connemara and the retriever, they are just outside the lighthouse to the north of the channel in about 20 foot of water, coalies and pollack up to 4lb if you can get through the mackerel. some proper congers to 20lb also if you anchor over this shallow mark. Poor cod, small pollack and dogs inside the lough, again try the north side of the channel. Strap congers can be fairly plentifull close to the rocks at the lighthouse. I am still sussing out the areas out side the lough.

Have yet to launch at Carlingford since posting this last year. Anyone any further advice on where to launch or where to fish ? I don't really mind about the fishing, I'm primarily going to test out the new Aux engine, but if I come across fish I'll give it a go.

The new slip at Carlingford, anyone know if it's for public use ?

If you are referring to the new slip at the sailing club. Yes, if you ask they will allow you use it , but only during the week. They have sailing regatta's there almost every weekend over the summer and thus aren't keen on others using the slipway at weekends. Haven't really fished up there this season yet, but a guy I know had two tope at the entrance to the channel 3 weeks ago.
